NUVA - My Favorite New Sweetener (Win some!)

Hey everyone. I'm excited today to finally be able to share with you the newest sweetener on the market called NUVA. I wrote a review of it, so be sure to check it out on my Examiner column. Then come back here, because I'm giving two lucky readers a chance to try it for free. That's right... free!

All you have to do is leave a comment under this post. On Monday November 10th I'll randomly pick two names (I promise my hands will be clean!)by numbering the comments and pulling out two numbers. Those two names will be sent a sample of this great new sweetener all for their very own. For real and for true! :)

So check out my examiner column to get the skinny on my new favorite sweetener, then come back here and leave a comment. Good Luck!

Added: I forgot to mention you'll need to check back on this blog on Monday Nov. 10th to see if your name was drawn and I'll tell you how contact me with your shipping info. :)

Fiberfit Sale

Just wanted to give you a heads-up in case your interested...

I've quickly become a huge fan of the fiber based sweetener called Fiberfit. With only 1 carb, and that solitary carb being fiber, I feel free to use it in everything that requires sweetening. I used it in a quick cheesecake like mousse last night and it was fantastic! Not to mention the fact that it requires considerably less Fiberfit to sweeten something than of other artificial sweeteners.

If you are a fan of Fiberfit, now is the time to stock up! Karen Rysavy, of Truly Low Carb is having a sale on her 4 oz. bottles of Fiberfit. 5 bottles for $20 $22 or 12 bottles for $40 $42. (Sorry... Karen made a minor mistake in the pricing and just notified me, so I corrected it above.)

Why so cheap? Here is the explanation on her site:

Why the drastic reduction? Because the Best By Date is 04/27/07 - but I've personally used liquid Fiberfit from our first batch for as long as 2 years after the best-by date and could not tell the difference. I am really not sure there should be any valid expiration date - the stuff seems to last forever with no change - but manufacturers have to expire products in order to qualify for liability insurance, so ..... Take advantage of our over-production and STOCK UP NOW!!

Karen is a friend of mine and I trust her opinion on this. (I don't say that about everyone...) And I have to say that my current bottle is from the same batch she's clearing out and still tastes wonderful! I just took advantage of this sale and submitted my order for 12 more bottles. :0)

Added 2-14-08: Be sure when ordering you use the drop down menu to get the sale price. I've provided a screen shot below:

Win A Bottle Of Fiberfit !

This month we are having our Great Start Giveaway to celebrate the new year. And the response has been fantastic! Many have sent in their entries, along with a nice comment or two saying how much fun they are having trying to guess the photos. I'm so glad you are all having a good time! I know I'm loving every minute of it and can't wait for the next one! (Yes.. you read that right. There is already another giveaway in the works, so be sure you come back often so you don't miss out!)

One of the fabulous prizes we are giving away is a liquid sweetened soluble fiber called Fiberfit. It's ideal for low-carb dieters and diabetics. Fiberfit has a minimal effect on blood sugar and insulin levels and one teaspoon provides one full gram of fiber in liquid form. A single teaspoon has just 4 calories - approximately 1 gram of carbohydrates - from complex carbohydrate sources (the fiber itself). If you subscribe to the "net carbs" way of counting then this sweetener is a dream come true! And even if you do prefer to count all the fiber, you still get a great "carb bargain" with Fiberfit!

You can use Fiberfit in anything you want to sweeten up! It's great in things like baked goods, desserts, beverages, sauces, dressings, etc. Just think of it! You'll no longer having to worry about the carbs in Splenda while fixing your favorite low-carb dessert! And you'll be increasing your daily fiber intake by substituting Fiberfit in your drinks such as coffee and tea, as well as other foods. It's easy to convert your own recipes to use Fiberfit in place of other sweeteners. You can use 1 to 2 Tbsp. of Fiberfit in place of each cup of your ordinary sweetener and then adjust if from there. A little goes a long way!

Not convinced yet? Just look at some of these reviews from Netrition!

  • I absolutely cannot live without Fiberfit. It is my ONLY sweetener. :)

  • So easy to cook and bake with this sweetener. And with the fiber, no carbs to add to the recipes.

  • This is my favorite sweetener. I use it in most all of my cooking. If you haven't tried it you really should give it a try.

  • What more could you ask for? Concentrated sweetness - no funny after taste - no GI probs and healthy fiber all in one product! A quad-wammy! Considered "Liquid Slenda" for recipes so get yourself some and get cookin', baby! A little goes a long way so it's a great value. Will buy again. :)

  • This product is WONDERFUL!! Has no aftertaste and you don't have to use much to get the sweetness desired! I LOVE IT!!!

  • OMG, I am out of Fiberfit. This is tragic! I hate it when I forget to place an order. I don't like or use Splenda granulated anymore. It doesn't taste sweet and so much of it has to be used to gain the desired sweetness. I have been spoiled rotten since I started using Fiberfit. I can use a couple of squirts in a 12 oz. cup of strong coffee. It's sweet enough and I'm good to go... Great product! By the way, I use the powdered Fiberfit when I bake. I only use the liquid in drinks, sauces, and cereal.

  • I use the liquid and powder versions of this product. Very good and easy to use.

  • And there many more where those came from!

Thanks to the generosity of Karen Rysavy at Truly Low Carb, one lucky reader will soon own a 4 oz. bottle of this amazing sweetener, as well as an 8 page color recipe guide! But don't worry if you don't win. You can purchase Fiberfit anytime at Truly Low Carb, CarbSmart, Netrition, and Amazon.

But you can't win if you don't enter, so be sure you've submitted your entry by tomorrow, Jan. 24th!

    Worried about your sweetner?

I found this article today and felt it was definitely worth sharing. It summarizes various sweeteners and the questions frequently asked about them, such as:

    What is sucralose?

Why does aspartame carry a warning label? Is it true that it causes brain cancer?

Why is stevia sold as a dietary supplement, not a sweetener?

Why are xylitol and sorbitol used in chewing gum and in products for people with diabetes? They are not calorie-free.

    Does saccharin cause bladder cancer?

What is neotame? I hear it is about to hit the market.

I really couldn't add much to the topic, so I'll just let you read all about it here.

On a similar topic, take a look at this: The Low Down on Whey Low.

    To quote:

Whey Low is made of natural sugars — sucrose, fructose and lactose — not artificial ingredients

They claim this is the ideal sweetener for diabetics. To be quite honest, I don't see the logic in this. I have my own thoughts on this, but I'd love to hear your opinions on the subject. Any diabetics, or low-carbers, out there who have given this a try? Let us hear from you!
